About us
Mulligans Irish Music Bar looks right out on the river Amstel, from which Amsterdam took its name eight centuries ago. Founded in the summer of 1988, Mulligans is known as the oldest Irish Pub in the country. Over the years its easy central location, casual friendly atmosphere, friendly staff and the blend of quirky characters who call it home, have somehow made Mulligans into a legendary meeting place for musicians, writers, artists and other unsavoury types- as well as a destination for thousands of curious visitors from abroad and locals alike.
Bands have traveled regularly from Ireland, Scotland, the UK and all over the world to play gigs or join one of the famous sessions: The traditional Irish Sunday Session has been going since day one: Later we also started a more informal all style Session on Wednesday nights in the Back Room. Although the emphasis has always been on Traditional Irish music, during the later years the gigs have also extended to other styles, ranging from Bluegrass, country, pop, Americana and old time American.
Mulligans has a friendly informal atmosphere, a good pint of Guinness, a range of other beers and a large selection of Irish whiskeys, all washed down with live music most nights of the week. For sport lovers we show Irish sports on satellite televisions placed around the bar.
So, if you’re looking for a relaxed night out with a bit of live music and friendly people, come in for a drink and chat with friends, locals and strangers in the bar, or maybe outside on our terrace on a summers’ day. As the locals say: You never know who will show up, but the craic is always mighty…!
